Landscape Painting and Drawing Programme 2008

The 2008 programme runs from February to November and is comprised of studio-based workshops, and on-site landscape painting courses during the spring and summer months. These take place on Dartmoor and, for this year, in two very different areas of France – Normandy and the Tarn/Pyrenees.
The Dartmoor Landscape Painting Weeks take place on location during the spring and summer months of May, June, July, August and September, backed up with introductory and technical studio work. There is usually an emphasis during the week intended to widen students’ experience, for example large-scale charcoal drawing or large-brush watercolour work or a visual diary of colour sketches. There is an exhibition and review of work on the last day.
The One-day and Three-day Workshops are studio-based, except for the August series, and concentrate on landscape painting techniques and materials, colour and composition. Subject matter also includes still-life, the figure, and interiors. The workshops are very popular with regulars, and are also an opportunity for newcomers to sample the kind of approach and atmosphere that you may encounter on a longer course. Numbers are restricted so it is important to book in advance.
Arrival each day 9.30 am for 10.00 am start. Finish 4.00pm with tea and review.
Materials are not included but there are five studio and two portable easels, palettes, boards, jars, rags available, and there is a good supply of watercolour and drawing paper.
A materials and equipment list and directions are sent on receipt of deposit.
Tea and Coffee facilities are available at the studio locations, bring a packed lunch.

Evening Meals (for three day workshops and landscape painting weeks).
It is good to get together each evening for a meal and a glass of wine and a chat about the day’s events (inevitably humorous!) and we offer an informal home-cooked evening meal at Lime House. This comprises a freshly cooked seasonal main course and simple dessert. This should be booked in advance and is £10.00 per person.
Alternatively there is the opportunity to sample the many gastronomic delights the area has to offer. As well as many local pubs and restaurants, there are a number of Good Food Guide recommended establishments nearby and a few Michelin Guide starred ones too.
Transport
Assistance with transport to the daily painting locations is included and transfers from Exeter rail station can be arranged.

There is a variety of accommodation available and this should be booked directly with the provider. See here for details.
